The blood is drawn from the donor to the automated machine which separates the various components of the blood and retains the red blood cells. The rest of the components including WBCs, platelets, plasma, etc., are returned to the body with a saline solution. Hence, in this type of blood donation the person feels hydrated as the volume of the blood remains the same and saline solution keeps the body fresh and energetic.
