It is natural to want something that you don’t have, particularly when it is perceived as the most attractive feature in a person. Cheek dimples definitely hold that status. Here, we talk about what causes these indentations, and how you too can attain and flaunt them.
A dimple, also known as a gelasin, is considered to be a sign of attractiveness and charm. It appears when an individual is laughing, grinning, or smiling, and may appear and disappear over an extended period of time. None have been able to figure out as to what makes these indentations so desirable amongst the masses. Everyone craves to flash a dimpled smile and sway onlookers off their feet.
What are Dimples?
These are simply indentations in the skin, and those that occur on the cheek are different from those on the chin in terms of their formation. A depression on the chin is actually called a cleft. These usually develop when the skin between the mouth and the cheek gets pulled in to form the indentation. These depressions are mainly hereditary in nature and have been called a simple dominant trait. However, it is not necessary that every generation will have them. They are in fact quite elusive, and may skip a few generations before they make an appearance again.
A little known fact is that these may not always occur due to genetic reasons. As appealing and enticing as they are, dimples mainly develop due to some fault in the structure of the facial muscle and skin. Every face has a muscle known as zygomaticus major. When this muscle is shorter than usual, it is likely to pull in your skin when you smile and create a depression. In some people, the length of the muscle is so short that these indentations are visible even when they are not smiling. This of course is a very rare occurrence but an occurrence nonetheless. Though these depressions usually occur on both the cheeks, in some it appears only on one. Some believe that this trait is in fact more appealing than having them on both sides of the face.
How to Get These Indentations on the Cheeks
People are not deterred by the fact that a gelasin does not naturally occur on their face. They are always looking for ways to acquire it. Poking a pen in your cheek, to create it, is not going to help you in any way. The only way to incorporate this feature is by means of a plastic surgery. In this process, a small incision is made through the inside of the cheek in the zygomaticus muscle. A suture is permanently placed between the skin and muscle, thereby creating a gelasin when a person smiles. Surprisingly, this process has been quite popular for several years now, and the desire for dimples is not a recent fad.
The procedure is not at all time-consuming and can be performed within a day. As it is a sensitive procedure, you are likely to develop a wound which remains until it heals completely. Also, be prepared for the fact that the size of your gelasin may be medium and not very large. The process may get very complicated if you try to go beyond the demarcated levels of physical enhancements through unnatural means. You can also try to mimick natural dimples with the help of makeup or dimple piercings.
Now, a lot of you may believe that a gelasin adds immense beauty to your face. While there is nothing wrong in wanting to have one, don’t ever believe that it is all you need to look lovely. After all, as it is rightly said that ‘beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder’ and this really isn’t some kind of a philosophy or jargon. It is a simple, understated truth that you should be aware of.
You may resort to a plastic surgery to get those gorgeous cheek dimples; however, be prepared for anything that may go wrong. This is not a deterrent but just a warning. At the end, be content with the way you look. Everyone in this world is unique and no one can be like anyone else. You probably don’t realize it but you definitely have something that someone else is deeply desirous of.
