Planning to get anti-reflective coating on your glasses? Here is why you should get it done on your glasses.
Glasses are the most preferred way of vision correction. However, apart from the fact that they mar your physical appearance, they also restrict your peripheral vision. Besides, glasses can be more of a problem under certain circumstances, which include driving at night, reading in poor light, rains, etc. If contact lenses cannot be a solution for you, then a special coating called anti-reflective coating is a must for you. Anti-reflective coating glasses are often preferred over usual glasses for the myriad advantages that it offers.
What are Anti-Reflective Coating Glasses
If you are someone who has to spend a long time working on a computer, then you might have experienced that after some time, your eyes feel tired and the vision becomes blurry. This is because, the eye muscles exert themselves too much when you focus on a single spot for a long time. In addition, the light reflecting from the computer screen adds to eye strain. This problem can be greatly reduced if you wear glasses with an anti-reflective coating.
Anti-reflective or anti-reflexive coating is a coating comprising several layers of metal oxides which are applied on the eyeglasses from inside as well as outside. Each of these layers performs a special task, such as reducing glare, repelling water, eliminating reflection on the glasses etc. Anti-reflective coating on glasses also improves your physical appearance to a great extent. Since, the reflection on the glasses is greatly reduced, your eyes are completely visible, thus allowing you to make a better eye contact with people.
Advantages and Disadvantages
As mentioned above, anti-reflective coating glasses offer a great comfort to your eyes while working on a computer. Besides, they also reduce the halo effect which is very common during night driving. The headlights of the oncoming vehicles get reflected on your eyeglasses and cause large, blurry halos around them. This phenomenon can greatly distract the drivers. However, an anti-reflective coating prevents any reflection of lights and offers you a crisp vision.
Also, anti-reflective glasses are hydrophobic, meaning they repel water. This makes them ideal eye-wear during rains. They are also very useful when you are required to work in poor illumination. On the flip side, these glasses are very expensive. They cost you about $75 – $100 more than your usual eyeglasses. In addition, they are also very prone to scratches. Fingerprints, greasy film are very easily visible on anti-reflective eyeglasses. This makes people wonder if these glasses are really worth it.
How to Clean Anti-Reflective Coating Glasses
As mentioned above, anti-reflective glasses become dirty very easily. Cleaning them with your shirt sleeve or soap solution is not recommended. You will need a special alcohol solution to clean these glasses. This solution is often provided with your anti-reflective glasses. Besides, a micro fiber cloth will also be provided for cleaning purpose. Spray the alcohol solution on your glasses from inside and outside. Now gently wipe the glasses with micro fiber cloth. The advantage of using a micro fiber cloth, as opposed to normal one is that it does not leave any residue behind which could scratch the surface. This micro fiber cloth should be hand washed with mild detergent and air dried, after every usage. Also proper care must be taken when you wear or remove your glasses.
If you take due care of your anti-reflective coating glasses, you can enjoy the myriad benefits it has to offer, for a long time. Those who don’t, often end up wasting their money due to their negligence.
